Installed capacity of 48.2gw increased by over 60%

2022/4/19

On January 19, the National Energy Administration released the data of electricity consumption of the whole society in 2020. In 2020, the electricity consumption of the whole society will be 7511billion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%.

At the same time, the installed capacity of new energy power generation is also announced. In 2020, the newly installed power capacity nationwide will be 190.87 million KW, including 13.23 million kw of hydropower, 71.67 million kw of wind power and 48.2 million kw of solar power.

After declining for two consecutive years, the new PV installed capacity ushered in a big outbreak in 2020. The annual new installed capacity reached 48.4gw, up 60% year-on-year, second only to 2017, which was the second highest year for China's new PV installed capacity over the years.

Previously, the National Energy Administration announced that the newly installed PV capacity in the first three quarters of this year was 18.7gw. The industry generally predicted that after the rush for installation in the fourth quarter of this year, the newly installed PV capacity in the whole year is expected to exceed 35gw. Unexpectedly, 29.5gw was installed in the fourth quarter, 10.8gw higher than the total of the previous three quarters, realizing a leap forward growth.

According to the data released by the national energy administration, by the end of November 2020, the installed capacity of household PV projects included in the scale of national financial subsidies in 2020 has reached 10.1226 million KW. Even in December, OFweek solar PV network predicted that the annual installed capacity would be about 12gw, which may be the lowest in the past four years.

Therefore, the outbreak of new PV installations in China in 2020 is mainly concentrated PV, especially in the fourth quarter. As PV enters the era of parity and subsidies are eliminated, the proportion of distributed PV in China will be higher and higher in the future, and the concept of "self use, surplus electricity on the Internet" will also be deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and become a way of life in the future.

According to this target, in the decade from 2020 to 2030, the average annual newly installed PV capacity will reach 38gw. However, some experts believe that during the "fourteenth five year plan" period, China's annual average new PV installed capacity can reach 70gw, which is much higher than expected.

Judging from the achievements in 2020, with the further expansion of production capacity of China's major photovoltaic enterprises, making use of production capacity advantages to reduce costs, so that photovoltaic can continue to maintain high-speed development, and at the same time, feeding enterprise R & D to further improve China's advantages in the photovoltaic industry chain.
